What a rating shape is
A show's IMDb score is a single number for the whole run, which hides the thing you usually want to know: did it get better, or did it fall apart? Rising Shows takes every rated episode of a series, aggregates it season by season, and classifies the shape that trajectory makes. That shape is what you filter and browse by here.
Browse by shape
- Shows that get better every season - each season at least as good as the last
- Slow burns that pay off later - a modest start, then the later seasons lift off
- Shows with no bad season - great across every season, no weak one
- Shows that build to a great finale - the final season is the peak
- Shows with their best season last - the final season is the highest-rated of the run
- Shows that dipped and came back - a mid-run sag, recovered by the end
- Shows with a great start and finish - strong at both ends, a sag between
- Shows that peaked in the middle - best mid-run, weaker after
- Shows that peaked early - strong early seasons, weaker later
- Shows that got worse every season - each season no better than the last
- Shows that ended badly - the final season is the worst of the run
- Shows with wildly uneven seasons - big swings from one season to the next
- Shows whose last season broke the pattern - the ending departs from what came before
- Shows that outshine their reputation - the episodes rate higher than the show does
Narrowing to something you will actually watch
Beyond shape you can filter by genre, decade, streaming service, episode and season count, minimum IMDb votes, and rating floors. The gap filter is the interesting one: it finds shows whose episodes rate higher than the series' own IMDb score - the hidden gems whose reputation has not caught up - and, pointed the other way, the shows coasting on a name their episodes do not earn.
Where the data comes from
Episode ratings come from IMDb's public data dumps and refresh daily. Posters, overviews and streaming availability come from TMDB and JustWatch. You can browse every show A to Z, or turn any filter you build into a self-updating Plex collection with the Kometa export.
